Beth Twentyman

Beth is a mask-maker, movement teacher and performance artist based in Melbourne.

She was initially drawn to theatre in 1992, training in Performance Studies at Victoria University. Fascinated by communication and sensory learning, she went on to study to become a speech pathologist and work with adults and children re-training patterns of vocalisation and supporting their communication and learning needs.

Physical communication skills, body language, creativity and play are foundational blocks that shape Beth’s work. Discovering Giovanni Fusetti’s approach to theatre and the therapeutic benefits of play, led her to study at Helikos International School of Theatre Creation, Italy in 2013. Alongside a rigorous training in physical theatre, movement and devising, she trained in mask-making with Matteo Destro, and has continued to hone this craft ever since.

Training and assisting with Matteo Destro and Giovanni Fusetti for their Australian workshops in the theatre genres of Bouffon, Clown, Mask & Physical Theatre, Beth completed the Advanced Pedagogy Training at Helikos in Italy 2019.

She teaches mask and movement in schools, holds interactive events and talks for the public, including the workshop series “Movement on Sundays”, and has been guest lecturer at John Bolton School of Theatre.
